Christmas meals appeal 2017

Christmas is a special time for everyone and it’s particularly important to us at HARP. Whilst most of us are enjoying time with our families and a much needed break, for those living on the streets it can be a very lonely and stressful time of year. Many rough sleepers tell us they feel isolated and at risk, at what should be a safe and happy time of year.

This was the case for Jonathan, whose life was turned upside down after losing his son in a car accident. His relationship subsequently broke down, leaving him homeless.

“One Christmas I slept in a graveyard. Someone took my coat and sleeping bag so I slept in a T-Shirt that night. It was so cold and misty I couldn’t see my hand. Now I have a warm bed every night. Without HARP, I would be cold and on the streets again.”

Jonathan is now making fantastic progress in HARP accommodation, working with trained staff and volunteers to overcome the issues that surrounded his homelessness situation. He’s been looking forward to a safe and warm Christmas this year.

“Because I have made so much progress, I have had family and friends write to me and invite me to their homes this Christmas. This is the first time in years I have been welcome, it’s really nice to know that people believe in me. I can’t thank HARP enough for helping me to change my life, I can’t wait for Christmas, I hope to show others at HARP that anything is possible with the right support.”
